THE POSITION
Reporting to the Vice President of Finance and Investments, the Senior Accounting Director is responsible for leading the entire accounting department. He or she supervises the Accounting Directors and all property accounting teams, and plays a key role in financial governance, the preparation of consolidated financial statements, and the continuous improvement of processes across the organization.
RESPONSABILITIES
Department Leadership and Supervision
• Lead, supervise, and develop the entire accounting team, including the Accounting Directors and other team members;
• Set priorities, performance goals, and development plans for the team;
• Recruit, train, and mentor accounting talent and ensure succession planning within the department.
Financial Management and Reporting
• Oversee the preparation of monthly, consolidated, and year-end financial statements for all of the group’s properties;
• Ensure the quality of variance analyses between actual results, the budget, and projections at the corporate level;
• Oversee the review of balance sheet items and the analysis of variances from the budget;
• Serve as the primary point of contact with external auditors and tax authorities during audits;
• Approve year-end filings under your responsibility.
Governance, Processes, and Continuous Improvement
• Contribute to the development and optimization of best practices in accounting, financial controls, and financial reporting processes across the organization to support standardization, operational efficiency, and the quality of financial information;
• Ensure compliance with accounting policies and procedures throughout the department;
• Lead initiatives for continuous improvement and optimization of accounting processes and financial systems, including Yardi;
• Ensure compliance with applicable accounting and tax standards;
• Provide senior management with strategic analyses and recommendations to support decision-making and the evolution of the finance function.
Collaboration
• Work closely with the Vice President of Finance and Investments and other departments;
• Represent the accounting department in cross-functional corporate projects.
OUR IDEAL CANDIDATE
• Bachelor’s degree in accounting; CPA designation required;
• 10 to 15 years of relevant experience, including significant experience managing multiple teams or accounting managers, ideally in the real estate or property management sector;
• Proven experience supervising accounting directors or managers;
• Proficiency in the full accounting cycle and consolidated financial statements;
• Excellent knowledge of applicable accounting standards (NCECF/IFRS);
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office;
• Proficiency in Yardi software (a significant asset);
• Inspiring leadership and the ability to develop talent;
• Excellent communication and presentation skills when interacting with senior management;
• Independence, strategic judgment, and strong analytical skills;
• Attention to detail and ability to meet deadlines;
• Ability to thrive in a dynamic, growing environment and manage a large volume of diverse projects;
• A customer-focused approach to serving both internal and external clients.
